The Regional Conference «Sustainable Development: European Experience and Its Use in the Region» Successfully Concluded!
On December 13, 2024, Karaganda University of Consumer Cooperation hosted a regional conference dedicated to discussing key aspects of sustainable development. The event was held as part of the Erasmus+ project "European Practice of Sustainable Development Management Towards Green Transformation" and showcased a fruitful collaboration between academia, education, business, and the community.
The conference brought together over 50 participants, including experts from Kazakhstan and Europe, faculty members, students, representatives of government agencies, business communities, and environmental organizations. The program featured plenary sessions, thematic sections, presentations of innovative projects, and roundtables. Key topics discussed included financial, infrastructural, and managerial aspects of sustainable development, the transition to a green economy, the role of educational institutions in promoting sustainability, and interdisciplinary research.
The plenary speeches provided deeper insights into the impact of European approaches on sustainable development in the region. Representatives of local and international organizations participated in discussions, sharing their experiences and offering solutions to environmental and economic challenges. One of the highlights was the discussion on green financing mechanisms, including the prospects for using green bonds in Kazakhstan and the role of ESG practices in banking and corporate sectors.
Special attention was given to young participants. School students presented their projects aimed at addressing local environmental issues and developing sustainable urban environments. University students showcased innovative ideas, such as the "FS" project, which drew significant interest from the audience. These initiatives not only emphasize the importance of youth engagement in discussing sustainability issues but also demonstrate their creative approaches and sense of responsibility for the future.
In the concluding part of the conference, practical recommendations for further implementation of sustainable development principles in the region were developed. Participants highlighted the importance of such events as platforms for uniting science, business, and the community to tackle complex challenges.
The conference concluded with an award ceremony. Participants received certificates, and the authors of the best reports and projects were awarded diplomas. An electronic collection of materials summarizing the event will be published, serving as a valuable resource for all stakeholders.
We express our gratitude to all participants for their active involvement, ideas, and constructive proposals. This event marked an important step toward the region's green transformation.
