Training on the topic "Ethics of communication with people with disabilities"
The Chair of Psychology, Pedagogy and Social Work interacts with many social organizations and institutions working with people with disabilities. One of such organizations is the Public Foundation "ITeachMe" Competence Development Center", which for several years has been implementing social projects that contribute to the socialization and integration into society of persons with disabilities, increasing their competitiveness in the labor market.
The ITeachMe Foundation, in partnership with EPAM Kazakhstan, held a training on the topic "Ethics of communication with people with disabilities" on November 23 at our university. The training was attended by students of the educational programs "Social Work", "Psychology and management in education". The main purpose of the training is the formation of a theoretical knowledge base and practical skills among young people on the perception of persons with disabilities from the point of view of equality.
During the training, the main models of disability and modern concepts and approaches to solving the problems of people with disabilities in the context of the formation of an inclusive society were discussed. The trainers introduced students to the ethical foundations of communication with people with disabilities, revealed the mechanisms of their stigmatization and discrimination.
Interaction with the audience took place in a playful way, students worked in teams, getting used to the role of people with disabilities. The training gave students the opportunity to focus on the problems of people with disabilities in our society. Students actively discussed the given situations, performed practical exercises, shared their opinions and impressions.
As a result of the training, students received a number of recommendations from specialists for working with people with disabilities, mastered the skills and communication skills with them.
Undoubtedly, this event will have a positive effect on our students and increase their competence as future specialists.
