On October 10, 2024, the university hosted a lecture for students and teachers by the International Expert of the International Organization for Migration of the United Nations Agency Kenbaev Zhangali Aitkalievich on the topic: "The Law on Combating Human Trafficking as the next stage of the legal reform of the state and its impact on the general anti-corruption culture of society."
He told the historical problems of human traffic in Kazakhstan, what problems they faced during the development, explained the main provisions of the Law, international experience in this area. The lecture turned out to be very interesting and informative, since the lecturer himself is one of the developers of this Law.
Then the head of the compliance service of the University Fedotov S.V. spoke, who noted that the adopted Law is a new page in the organization of work on combating human trafficking and, in general, the fight against organized crime in the Republic of Kazakhstan. Considering that the United Nations Convention against Organized Crime of July 21, 1997, in the definition of organized crime, indicates that corruption is one of the three main means (the other two are violence and intimidation) which enable the leaders of organized crime to make a profit, the adoption of this law is another blow to those corrupt law enforcement officers who in every possible way cover up the organizers of human traffic.
After the lecture, students actively asked questions about the application of the new law in real life, and were also interested in how international organizations such as the United Nations can help in the fight against human trafficking and corruption. Zhangali Aitkalievich answered each question in detail, giving examples from his practice and international experience.
Graduate students who are preparing diploma projects related to legal reforms and combating human trafficking showed particular interest in the topic under discussion. They actively participated in the dialogue with the expert, asking clarifying questions on legislative aspects and international practices.
The lively dialogue demonstrated the high interest of students in the topic and showed the importance of such events for expanding legal awareness and social responsibility.
